On November 11, 1919, Siro Kayaba established a research center dedicated to the study of hydrodynamics. In 1927, Kayaba Seisakusho began manufacturing hydraulic shock absorbers, catapults and other components for the aerospace industry, but Kayaba Manufacturing Co., Ltd. The company was officially founded on March 10, 1935. The company, which has 180 employees and is one of the largest companies of the time, also developed a prototype of the first shock absorber in the same year.
After building a factory in Gifu in 1943, KYB, which began a period of rapid development with the end of the war, signed a new era in world shock absorber production in 1946 with orders for 20 prototype shock absorbers. Mass production of shock absorbers began in 1947.
In 1956, the company, which also focused on the service sector, was already developing and manufacturing tuning and sports shock absorbers for cars and motorcycles. In 1968, the area was 163.5 thousand square meters. m. and KYB’s new plant, which started with 1,700 employees, reached record production capacity. Today, the plant’s 35 production lines produce more than 40 million shock absorbers a year. 70% of shock absorbers supplied to Russia are manufactured at the Gifu plant.
With the opening of the KAYABA branch in the United States in July 1974, the company has already established itself in the American market and now sells its products on every continent and country in the world. In addition to shock absorbers, KYB is also a supplier of many car conveyors, such as Toyota, Nissan, Citroen, Peugeot, which produce EPS systems, ECU, GPS equipment and a number of other electronic equipment and components.
